What’s it like to study with me?

/ Read all about what it’s like to have lessons with me, and how I believe piano should be taught /

What am I like as a teacher?

I have been extremely lucky and fortunate to have had the opportunity to study with absolutely fantastic teachers myself. One of the most important qualities they all shared – they all taught each student differently. The lessons were tailored to each student’s personality, character and experience.

I really believe that each person who shows up to learn to play piano is so different, and the method that I use for one might not fit another one. I take great value in getting to know my pupils, and trying to understand their mindset, character, and what music or activities they enjoy. All of this helps me to develop the pace and approach in lessons that works the best.

What is important and highlighted in my teaching?

The most important thing for me while teaching piano is developing students’ musicality. We might have different technical abilities and time that we can invest but the main goals are always to understand music, develop musicality and have fun! This way, we can use music as a tool to express ourselves, but also understand and appreciate the music we hear around us.

What will be expected in my lessons?

In my lessons you can expect to always have time dedicated to technique training and warming up. After that, we dive into playing the pieces we are learning. I will provide tips of how to fix any issues and also how to practice it in a productive and efficient way at home. There will also be time spent to cover music theory in order to deepen the understanding of the pieces you play.

What will it feel like to study with me?

My goal is to inspire my students in a more substantial way beyond just playing the piano. My goal is to teach and provide you with all the necessary technical and theoretical tools to understand the music you play and hear, but above all to be able to fully experience and form an emotional connection to the music. To tell a story and show your personality through the music you play. My lessons are engaging and rich with discovery and fun!

How long are lessons and how frequently?

The length of lessons and regularity is discussed and adjusted individually based on the student's availability, what goals they want to achieve, how fast they want to progress, and also to their age. Young children until 7 or 8 years old often take 45min lessons, but again, that is not a rule!
